OVERVIEW OF AWARDS

The Future Problem Solving Program in Australia is primarily a volunteer organisation, made up of dedicated individuals who willingly donate their time and expertise to involve as many students as possible. This contribution can be at a National, State or School level.

To acknowledge the achievement of these individuals Future Problem Solving Australia has the following awards.

2019

Luke Tedesco - NSW

Luke has been in Future Problem Solving for seven years, since Year 4. He has attended four National finals and two International competitions having particular success in Action Plan presentations, where his teams have won Nationally and Internationally. He is mentoring Year 7 teams and has become a trained National Evaluator this year. He is recognised as a leader in his teams, maintaining focus and order. He is an enthusiastic supporter of FPS and has represented FPS at Co-Curricular Expos, Assemblies and other community events.

Oliver Weeding - NSW

Such is Oliver Weeding’s enthusiasm for Future Problem Solving, he has seldom missed a training session no matter what else is happening, according to his nominator, Dylan Sherman. A participant in the program from Year 7 in 2015, Oliver has had national and international success. He has mentored teams and accepted many opportunities to promote the program at Knox Grammar and within his community. This included College assemblies, and co-curricular expos. He has trained as a Global Issues Evaluator and evaluated booklets from various divisions.

Nitasha Dewan - NSW

Nitasha, who is currently in Year 12 has been an enthusiastic and dedicated participant in the FPS program since Year 7. She is a wonderful team player and an excellent ambassador at her school participating in the Global Issues Team competition, the CmPS competition and as a GIPS coach. Nitasha has also been

an enthusiastic advocate for FPS in the school community, speaking to students about the program and encouraging them to become involved in various aspects of FPS.

2018

Swetha Kumar - NSW

Swetha has been a committed, reliable and enthusiastic particpant of the FPS program for many years. She is a wonderful team player and an excellent ambassador for the school in both the Team and Individual Global Issues Booklet program. She currently volunteers her time as an assistant coach. Swetha d has been an enthusiastic advocate in the school community, speaking to students about the program and encouraging them to become involved in various aspects of FPS. Swtha has ben a committed and dependable compeitor and coach who is respected by both students and staff at her school Loreto Normanhurst. We congratulate Swetha on her award.

Noa Silversten - VIC

Noa began his journey in the schools for ever CmPS entry when he was in year 7. He is an amazing young man who has grown through his dedication to the FPS problem solving process and his teams. Through his years of involvement in FPS Noa has shown great commitment and persistence to the program, he has displayed leadership skills and is an inspiration tp younger members of the Future Problem Solving team and to the college at large. He has been a driving force in the development of FPS at Emerald College. We congratulate Noa on his award.

2017

Tiffany Fong - NSW 

Tiffany has been an enthusiastic and dedicated participant in the FPS program over the past 5 years. She is a wonderful team player and an excellent ambassador for the school in both the Team and Individual Global Issues Booklet program. She currently volunteers her time as an assistant coach.  Tiffany became involved in FPS in Year 7 when she joined the Introductory Course . She was an enthusiastic GIPS team member for 3 years (Years 7, 8 and 9) and competed as an Individual in Year 10 where she was successful in receiving an invitation to Nationals. Tiffany has been involved in being an assistant coach at Loreto this past year working closely with a number of our middle and senior teams. Tiffany has been an invaluable contributor encouraging the girls, systematically training them and always turning up for training (lunchtimes, mornings and after school) even when extra sessions have been called. She works alongside the girls and the girls respond warmly to her encouragement and insight.  Tiffany has also been an enthusiastic advocate for FPS in the school community, speaking to students about the program and encouraging them to become involved in various aspects of FPS.We congratulate Tiffany on her award

Shaun McAnally - QLD

Shaun has been an outstanding ambassador for Future Problem Solving at Siena Catholic College. As a team member he has always been enthusiastic, dedicated, totally committed to the process and always appreciative of the opportunity he was given to participate. In Yr 11 & 12, Shaun eagerly volunteered to coach junior teams as he was keen to begin giving back to the FPS program. His teams have benefitted greatly from his knowledge, experience and reliability, and have thoroughly enjoyed having him as a coach. He is encouraging, patient, organised, and creative with his pedagogy for one so young.   In Yr 11 Shaun also undertook responsibility for improving the format of the FPS resources we use at Siena Catholic College to better help prepare our teams. He has designed a wonderful FPS Guide for all students to access together with a "Companion to the Guide" for students to write in, as well as a "Coaches’ guide to FPS" to assist students and staff who might be new to the process, to coach a team. This year he has refined them slightly after using the resources with his own team. 

Shaun is an exceptional young man who has dedicated so much time and energy into promoting FPS. We Congratulate Shaun on his award.

2016

Morgan Ridley-Smith - NSW

Morgan's nominators have written that she has been an enthusiastic and dedicated participant in the FPS program over the past 5 years. She is a exceptional team player, an excellent ambassador for the school in both Global Issues and CmPS teams, has achieved success at National and International competitions and is now an assistant coach and an evaluator.  Morgan has been an invaluable contributor encouraging the girls in the FPS school program, systematically training them and always turning up for training (lunchtimes, mornings and after school) even when extra sessions have been called. She does everything with a smile and offers words of encouragement. Morgan has been an enthusiastic advocate for FPS in the school community, speaking to students about the program and encouraging them to become involved in various aspects of FPS.  We congratulate Morgan on her award.

Julian Grimm - VIC

Julian's nominators have written that Julian spends a great deal of time,  both in and out of school hours. mentoring other FPS students. He was instrumental in the success of the National finals that was held at St Leonard's College in 2014, organising the many student helpers.  His ability to bring out the best in all the people he works with is nothing short of remarkable. Julian is highly intelligent, generous of spirit, grateful, industrious and a strong advocate for FPS.  He has always encourages other students to continue with the program.  Julian's passion for FPS is infectious and this can be observed when you watch him help younger members of the program.  We congratulate Julian on his award.

2015

Ben Devine - QLD

Ben is an outstanding ambassador for the FPS program.  In 2015 he has acted as a team coach / facilitator and mentor for our senior school teams at A.B. Paterson College. He has worked with myself and the other coaches.   Ben has developed the training program and has presented all the sessions to participants each week.   He is an outstanding young man.   Ben has found FPS, particularly, the Community Problem Solving program has opened up three avenues; the ability to think critically and apply the six-step process to any area of concern, the opportunity to start his own project that addresses real world issues and finally, to develop a supporting network of people who share a similar passion to extend themselves above and beyond with the FPS program.

Johnson Man - NSW 

Johnson Man has been involved with the Future Problem Solving Program since year 7.  He is a fine advocate for the program having competed with great success at national and international level.  During his Year 11 and 12 years Johnson has been fully involved in giving back to the program by coaching and mentoring younger students. During the absence of the lead FPS coach, he offered to coach the younger students so they would not miss too many important FPS training sessions.  Johnson advocates for the program, encouraging the students to be passionate about the topics and the necessity to research current knowledge in an endeavor to apply it in the future.

Cara Stone - NSW

Cara is a committed, intelligent young woman who has given selflessly of her time to FPS at Loreto Normanhurst. She is a woman of integrity who is a wonderful role model to other students. Cara has been involved in the program throughout her schooling at Loreto beginning in Year 8 and carrying through to Year 12. She has been committed in all areas she has undertaken and often gone above and beyond what has been expected of her. She has been an enthusiastic and dedicated participant, a wonderful team player an excellent ambassador for the school in both Global Issues and CmPS teams with successes in National and International competitions. Cara has also completed the evaluator training, participated in evaluating booklets for GIPS and is currently an assistant coach for our Year 8 teams. Cara has been an invaluable contributor in this way encouraging the girls, systematically training them and always turning up for training (lunchtimes, mornings and after school) even when extra sessions have been called. She does everything with a smile and offers words of encouragement and our Year 8 teams have blossomed. I have no hesitation in recommending Cara for this award and I believe she will continue to encourage students to be involved in the FPS program long after she has left school.

Nimah Nolan - VIC

Nimah is an excellent ambassador and advocate of FPS. As a highly able student, others model on her and take her lead. Nimah is persistent and strives for excellence.  She has sung the praises of FPS to her debating colleagues and uses the categories and thinking skills for her other academic life. Nimah is a competent evaluator and excellent teacher of all the steps and thoroughly enjoys mentoring her peers and younger students. She is extremely well respected and students listen to her.   She is more than willing to give up her early mornings, weekends and holidays to FPS.   Nimah has contributed to the program and advanced it at school level and has been part of the student body assisting in the 2014 National Finals

2014

Lachlan Mitchell - NSW

Lachlan proudly acknowledges the many skills he has gained from the Future Problem Solving Program and his enthusiasm in sharing his passion for the program in 2014 has meant he has been generous in his time to help coach a new teacher to the program as well as mentoring year 7 students each week.  It is affirming to see his personal growth in confidence from a very reserved Year 7 student to an outgoing young man now now capable of leadership roles within the school and community.

Stephanie Varcoe - NSW

Stephanie Varcoe has been a valuable and supportive member of the FPS Student Group since she began as a Global Issues Problem Solving team member.   Her leadership of the team, ensured they continued competing annually for three years, reaching the National Finals each time, until the team moved into CmPS on Stephanie's guidance.   I have been extremely impressed with Stephanie's loyalty to FPS throughout her years of involvement.  As well as being a Global Issues booklet team member, Stephanie has coached a middle division CmPS to International Conference invitation and most notably campaigned at school for the re-institution of the FPS program so that in 2013 and 2014 the school fielded five new teams year year.   In 2013 Stephanie personally led the coaching of all five teams, one of which reached the National Finals. As all teams were new to the program, without and previous experience, this was a true achievement.

Emma Fazzino - Vic

During her involvement in FPS, Emma was always the driving force behind her team, acting as the team captain and was responsible for organising her team's materials, research and leading discussion in team training sessions.   In Year 11, in addition to competing with her own team, she mentored two teams in Middle Division.  She was always reliable and prepared activities for these new FPSers.  She is an outstanding role model for the younger FPSers and is always encouraging and supportive.  Both her teams were successful in reaching National Finals in 2013, in their first year of competition. Although Emma has not continued to compete in 2014 due to the demands of her Year 12 studies, she has devoted her lunchtimes on two days a week to continue her mentoring of teams in the Middle Division.   I commend Emma as an outstanding example of Youth Leadership in FPS

2013

Daniel Mahon - Qld

Daniel has been an enthusiastic team member at Siena College, who demonstrated strong leadership qualities within each team he has been involved with.   He is a very reliable and dedicated student.   In 2012 he began mentoring younger students learning the FPS process and was a wonderful role model; assistance coach.   During the absence of the FPS coach in 2013 Daniel agreed to coach an enthusiastic team of year 9/10 students to ensure they had the same opportunity which he had been offered.  He carried out this role admirably, conducting himself with the utmost maturity and integrity always.   Daniel's commitment to the FPS program has been outstanding.  I would certainly consider him an ambassador for the FPS program as well as a worthy recipient of the E Paul Torrance Youth Award.

2012

Luke Thorburn - Vic

Luke is a highly able student with a real passion for FPS.   He has been involved in the program since year six and has been an active team member since then.  Luke is an outstanding ambassador for FPS, his contributions to FPS includes commencing the stampede of students wanting to do FPS in our secondary school, motivating his own team to high levels, writing Future Scenes for the school FPS teams, his contributions to evaluating booklets at school level, his mentoring of other teams, his role modeling that FPS is cool at school and his total commitment to the FPS program which is continuing with evaluating booklets.   I highly recommend Luke as worthy recipient of the E.Paul Torrance Youth Award.

Dylan Sherman - NSW

I have had the pleasure of being involved with Dylan Sherman, Year 12, in the Future Problem Solving Program at Knox Grammar School for 5 years. He joined the program in his Year 8 year and he was determined to excel. I predict he will be one of the Future Problem Solving team management contributors of the future as his passion for the program exceeds that of any of my students to date.

Dylan has a quiet determination to lead his own team and younger teams to success. His passion for research and the program is balanced by his organized, structured approach to research utilizing futuristic ideas, the 6 step process, time management, team dynamics and gaining commitment to study times. This applies to his planning, leadership and mentorship of younger teams.

Dylan has been involved in the training process at Knox Grammar. He has mentored younger teams and written complex scenes to help prepare students for International competition. He has also willingly evaluated team booklets in preparation for becoming a National evaluator in 2012. He is keen to return to Knox to train a team of his own in 2013. Dylan will be an asset to the National program as he has innovative ideas to take the program into the future to further inspire our students. It is with great pleasure and pride that I recommend him as a highly worthy candidate for the 2012 E. Paul Torrance Award.

2011

Ben Barber - Qld

Our most outstanding student would be Ben Barber who has participated in the booklet event in Yr 9, 10 & 11. He completed the evaluator's workshop last year and commenced evaluating, and helped the two beginner's teams once a week before school most weeks this year, as well as participating in the International Finals in 2011.

Olivia Wallace - NSW

Olivia has been closely involved with the Community Problem Solving side of FPS since 2009 when her artistic and technological advice was utilized for our school's team that year. Her interest peaked,she formed her own team with three friends and they entered the Program with a project of their own which involved improving the safety of refugees and visitors to our seaside area. After placing second in the Nationals they were invited to the International Competition ultimately placing first in the Senior Education division. The team as a whole was commended for their supportiveness of each other and Olivia was at the forefront.

Since 2009,she has promoted FPSP in the school and at youth venues, to such a degree that the CmPS program has quadrupled at our school. She has assisted the teams which have followed her inspirational lead with advice and mentoring, and despite preparation for her HSC, is still an active force.

Olivia is a delightful and genuine young woman who enhanced the reputation of Australians with her friendliness at IC and Home Stay. She is still in touch with her Home Stay friends and provided introductions for this year's new team who were fortunate enough to stay with the same family.

Olivia continues to be actively involved in the Program at our school and intends to continue helping to coach next year once she has left for University. She demonstrates commitment and enthusiasm in all her dealings with FPSP and I fully recommend her for this prestigious award.

Anthony Scholefield - SA

Antony has been part of the Future Problem Solving activities at St John's Grammar since he started as a Scenario Writer in year 8. As well as achieving outstanding results in the Scenario Writing program he as also been an key team member of the Global Issues Problem Solving team. During the 2009 competition year Antony mentored the two younger members of his team that achieved an invite to the National Finals and then to the 2010 FPSPI International Conference. Antony was active in attending FPS meetings - has a very clear grasp of the process, shares knowledge, listens very effectively to others and addresses their concerns, gives advice/makes suggestions that make the whole process easier for his peers to understand.

In addition to his school's FPS activity Antony has attended state Resource Days and helped with preparation at St Johns. He has been a great support to new coordinator of FPS at St Johns this year 2011.

2010

David Kim - NSW

David is an advocate for the FPS program in his love of the research process and the excitement of researching futuristic ideas and applying them meaningfully to the topics and his school studies. He feels it has taught him to be analytical in his thinking and it has led to an ongoing interest in philosophy and theological issues. David has an extremely enquiring mind and the FPS program has increased his passion in intellectual debate in an endeavor to reach consensus on key issues. The most difficult challenge for David to overcome was the skills required for the Action Plan presentation. It was rewarding to see the courage involved in overcoming his inhibitions to perform as creatively and dramatically as he does in the written genre, as evidenced in his team being placed first and second at National level and 4th on two occasions at International level.

The experience gained at 3 years of National competition and 2 years of International competition have made David a well rounded Year 11 student with an ongoing passion for FPS and the commitment to share his skills with Year 7 students in 2010. His assistance in mentoring twice a week has been invaluable with the shortage of coaches. He has the ability to empathise with the learning style of 12 year old students with a short attention span and offers them advice "beyond his years." He will continue this support throughout 2011 and will consider evaluating on an ongoing basis.

David is a worthy candidate for the E Paul Torrance Youth Award.

William Xi - NSW

William's team qualified for the Australian Final in 2007 but his team's focus on excellence occurred in 2008 when his team were placed 2nd at the Nationals and then in 2009 when they were placed 3rd in the booklet competition at the International Finals.

Not only has William felt empowered by the FPS program himself but he has been a committed Peer tutor to Year 7 students through his belief in sharing the skills to help others fulfil their creative potential. He has a refreshing approach to stimulating their excitement and wonder in both Future Problem Solving issues and lifelong learning. Staff and I have seen William develop leadership qualities through the process of his involvement in the Future Problem Solving Program.

William will continue to advocate for FPS and support students in his Year 12 year and well into the future.

2009

Thomas Khoo - SA

Thomas is an outstanding student and ambassador for the FPS programme both in school and in the wider community.   Within the school, Thomas is invaluable as he inspires the other boys to rise to the challenge of FPS, ensuring that his fellow students complete all tasks on time and guiding them to produce work to the best of their ability.  He makes the programmed desirable, despite its intensity of challenge, through his passion for it and through his success, which others wish to emulate.  This year he has entered the Scenario Presentation section too and drawn with him a number of boys who might never normally have thought of attempting such a complex challenge; he has given the, the confidence to take the competition seriously and the skills to work through the technical aspects of the tasks, and by doing so has supported them morally, academically and in terms of their personal academic growth.

At state level, Thomas offers training to teachers throughout South Australia and I am regularly stopped by teachers at State Conference for English and Gifted and Talented Education to talk further about hime and the FPS program.

At National level, Thomas has won gold medals on numerous occasions and attended all Finals whenever possible.  This year his Writing Scenario came 2nd in the world; an outstanding achievement and he was invited to write an article for Future Talk sharing his secrets for success.

Thomas is a truly outstanding student who loves the FPS programme passoinately and is a wonderful ambassador for a wonderful programme.

Emily Dirckze - NSW

By the middle of the year in Year 11, Emily's record in, and contribution to, the Future Problem Solving Program was sufficient for her to be declared "runner up" for the Torrance Award in New South Wales. She had been an overseas global issues and scenario competitor, and participator in three components of the program at national finals; and she had given support and encouragement to students and teachers  in three schools including her own over several years.  Since then her achievements have continued. Her story, "The Hope of the Hopeless", was placed 3rd in the National Scenario Writing Competition in 2008 and went on to receive 3rd Place internationally in 2009. She also became the inaugural FPSPI Scholarship winner in 2009 for her dedication and contribution to FPS. Since August of 2008 Emily has contributed to the program by evaluating both Global Issues booklets and scenarios at national level, including at the 2008 Finals. During 2009 Emily has been the assistant coach of a Year 8 team and a mentor to a new teacher coach. In this capacity Emily has been completely reliable and committed. Additionally she has been a supportive critical friend to new scenario writers with whom she has been prepared to share the knowledge and experience gained through her years of writing and competing in this component of FPS. Emily has been an outstanding ambassador for Future Problem Solving at school, national and international levels. It is without hesitation that I strongly recommend her for the 2009 Torrance Award for a NSW student.

2008

Scott Marsh - NSW

Scott's committment and loyalty to the FPS program throughout his years of involvement has been impressive.   As well as being a booklet team member, Scott has regularly entered the Scenario Writing competition, and was a place-getter in 2002, 2004 and 2006.   His scenarios have also been submitted to IC for evaluation on three occasions, and he has scored top 8 places in each of those years.  His confidence in the value of the program has never wavered, and he has been a wonderful ambassador for the program in our school.   The Middle (Year 7) team he assisted in coaching in 2005 reached the national finals, and since then he has made himself available to all junior secondary teams as a mentor and advisor.  After a member of his own team left the school in 2006, Scott continued to support FPS through his association with the younger teams and students.  Even in 2008, with the pressures of the HSC as a Year 12 student, he has volunteered to attend holiday study days to assist in the preparation of the teams for the Qualifying Problem.  He has also shared his own IC experiences with our international teams in 2007 and 2008, and has provided valuable advice for these groups.    Scott credits FPS with the ability to create a group of young adults who are capable of tackling the problems of the world, through their experiences in the program.  I regard Scott as one of these young adults.

Emma Phillpotts - QLD

Emma has been committed to FPS and has been instrumental in its inclusion in the school program and keeping it alive.  She was sucessful in 2007 as a state finalist.  In 2008, Emma attended training sessions organised by FPS so as to facilitate her involvement as a member of the Year 9 and 10 school team.  Emma has also assisted in running sessions for the Year 9 team.  She has been a inspiration to both her Year level and the Year 9 group in her knowldge of FPS and her ability to communicate at their level.  Emma posesses a flair for FPS in her ability to analyse questions in a logical manner.  She would be a wonderful ambassador for FPS as she is motivated to improve her understanding whilst helping others.

2007

Alyssa Robinson - NSW

Alyssa has been passionate about FPS since she started it in Year 7.  Now in Year 12 she is often relied on to speak at assembly and spread the word in other ways.  With other students in Year 11 she helped coach students at Blacktown Girls High School and St Benedict College.  Alone she prepared a news letter and website to publicise FPS.  Alyssa has displayed a collaborative, responsible nature while working with other student in the program.  While she is intelligent and an analytical thinker she is prepared to listen to others and learn from them.  She has shown herself to be a courteous and friendly young woman.  She has initative and a positvie attitude.

Jessica Steele - NSW

Jessica is an excellent ambassador for the Future Problem Solving Program.  She has been involved in FPS since she was in the Junior Division and has maintained her interest and commitment through her secondary school years.  Jessica qualified as a booket evaluator early in 2006 and attended the National Finals in 2006 as a evaluator.  She is an extremely competent and intelligent evaluator and has also used her skills and experience to assist teams within the school.  During 2007, Jessica has coached a Year 7 team and also mentored the TIGS team which attended IC, and won the Middle Division in 2007.  Her contribution to their preparation was very important.  Jessica credits FPS with the realisation of skills which go beyond the program and permeate all learning and research.  These are the attributes which involvement in the program seeks to provide for all our students, and therefore I consider Jessica to be a worthy recipient of this award as she exemplifies the goals which, as a coach, I woukd hope that all students strive to achieve.

Lindon Roberts - WA

Lindon has sustained involvement in the Future Problem Solving Program for the past eight years at a very high level.   His peer coaching of less able teams has been particularly appreciated.   He is quietly humble in working with others and has been strong in supporting the National Finals planning.  He posses a fine intellect and knows the FPS process very well.   Being an evaluaor has also sharpened his skills.   He is very worthy of this award and would be a great ambassador for the program in the Future.

Neil Thomas - WA

Neil has been involved in the Future Problem Solving Program at Wesley College for seven years.  In that time he has been part of teams which have attended the National Finals several times and has also attened the IC in Kentucky USA in 2004.  Neil has also qualified as a national evaluator and trained coach.  His strengths in the program involve his scrupulous preparation for the competition in his research and attention to detail in developing actions plans.   He is a strong member of the team and has been integral in maintaining the FPS momentum at Wesley College.

2006

Johannes Chan - WA

Johannes has been the leader within the school in carrying forward the impetus to put forward the application for the Nationals to be held in WA in 2007. He has lead the six other Year 11 students into attending the Wyvern Centre during free sessions in order to progress the application further. He has regularly organised meetings to discuss further actions that are needed.

Most spectacularly he has put together the WA brochure which was distributed earlier to State Convenors regarding the Nationals. He has also carried out the feasibility studies regarding facilities and put these together into the more comprehensive report which has recently been distributed.

Kathleen Champ - NSW

Kate has been involved in Future Problem Solving since she entered high school.  Her earliest success came when, as a Year 7 student, she was placed 3rd in the 2001 Middle Scenario Writing Competition. After working in a number of different booklet teams Kate finally had a winning combination as a Year 10 student in 2004 when her team won the Senior Division of the competition at National Finals. The team competed at IC in 2005 without success, but Kate decided to try again as an individual competitor. After winning the Senior Individual Booklet competition at National Finals in 2005, Kate went on to win the same division at IC in 2006 and returned to school to be hailed as a ‘World Champ'. Kate's dedication to the FPSP has been reflected in her contribution to evaluation, a task she qualified to do while still a Year 9 student, and her willingness to help coach other teams and mentor teachers new to the program. Kate has made a considerable contribution to Future Problem Solving at both school and national levels.

2005

Tristan Arnold - NSW

Tristan has made a great contribution to FPS at National, State and school level, He attended the last NSW State Committee meeting and has made positive suggestions about the forthcoming National Finals which again will be held at Loreto Normanhurst.  At the school level, he has coached and mentored younger students, and new students in the programme.  He has also generously given his time to developing practice scenarios which have been used by our own school teams, and other teams in NSW prior to qualfiying and national final competition.  Tristan is a well-regarded evaluator in both booklet and scenario competition.   He has evaluated in the Booklet Competition at National Finals in both 2003 and 2004, showing his skill and experience, even though still a school student.   He assisted at these two National Finals as Photographer, office and computer assistant and general gopher - and performed all tasks with supreme efficiency.  Tristan is a great ambassador for the Future Problem Solving Program - he is passionate about it and willingly shares his knowledge and expertise with others.

Simon Casinader - VIC

Simon is a current year 12 student at Caulfield Grammar School and has been a member of the Future Problem Solving school team for the last four years.  Simon's involvement in the FPS Programme has shown a dedication not only to his individual team but more significantly to the school FPS Programme.  Simon was in Year 8 when the school first offered Future Problem Solving as part of the Talent Development Program and his enthusiasm for the program was obvious from the first "expression of interest" form he was asked to complete. Throughout his time in the programme has has given unselfishly of his time.  He has coached Middle Year teams, encourages others to join the programme through speaking at Middle Years assemblies and co-writing articles for the school newsletter, assisted at State Information Days and undertaken training as an evaluator.  He was instrumental in organising three other students to join him in training as evaluators; all four students are now Victorian Evaluators.   Simon's knowledge of the FPS Programme is outstanding and his contribution to his team success in reaching the 2003 and 2004 National Finals has been significant.  Simon is a valued team member and an outstanding ambassador for the FPS Programme.

Stephen Barrett - WA

Stephen Barrett (principal nominee) on behalf of his Senior team and FPS Committee members Dustin Stuart, Simon Treadgold and Peter Anthonisz.  It is impossible to single out one student as more worthy of the award than the others, and would appreciate Stephen Barrett as accepting the award on behalf of his team.

Stephen is an inaugural member of the Western Australian Future Problem Solving Committee and has contributed to and attended regular committee meetings.  He has attained national Coaching status in 2004. During the training Stephen spoke to the teachers at the course regarding the value of the program. He received strong acclaim for this presentation.  He also attained national Evaluator status in 2004 after submitting a trial evaluation booklet. During this state wide Evaluator  training Stephen assisted in training teachers in the program and was commended for his guidance by the teachers attending the course.  He has assisted in organising and promoting FPS at the State Information Day in May 2005.   He has also assisted in creating a Key Tips advice booklet which has been published on the website and assisted in promoting WA for consideration for the FPS Nationals in 2007.
