AI Policy

Research and Data Collection
a) AI tools may be used for research purposes, such as gathering information, accessing databases, or finding reputable sources. However, participants must evaluate and verify information from AI sources for accuracy and credibility.
b) Direct copying of AI-generated content into submissions is not permitted. Students are encouraged to synthesise and analyse information to form original ideas and solutions.

Writing and Content Creation
a) All written content must be the original work of the participants. While AI-based tools (e.g., grammar checkers or style enhancers) may be used to refine language and clarity, they should not generate substantial parts of the content.
b) AI-generated texts or paraphrasing tools should not be used to produce competition entries. Any evidence of AI-driven content generation in submissions will result in an investigation, which may lead to disqualification.

Problem Solving and Creative Work
a) Participants are encouraged to utilise their own critical and creative thinking skills when developing solutions. AI tools may not be used to generate or formulate Solutions or a Plan of Action to any given problem or scenario.
b) Competitor written scenarios, in the Scenario Writing division, may be inspired by AI devised concepts. However, the primary writing, design, and conceptualisation must remain student-driven.

Ethical Considerations
- Participants must follow ethical standards when using AI tools. This includes, avoiding plagiarism, respecting copyright, and acknowledging any AI-assisted contributions in their submissions.
- Group members must communicate transparently about the use of AI to their team, ensuring that all team contributions are original work.

Consequences of Misuse
Future Problem Solving Australia takes academic integrity and fairness seriously. Any misuse of AI, such as generating content without appropriate citation, using AI to solve Problems, or failing to disclose AI assistance, will be subject to investigation. Consequences may include point deductions, disqualification from competitions, or bans from future participation, depending on the severity of the infraction.

Promoting Responsible AI Use
Future Problem Solving Australia aims to educate participants on the appropriate and ethical use of AI within the problem-solving context through this document and beyond. This includes coach training workshops, seminars, and resources on the advantages, limitations, and ethical considerations of AI tools in education. Participants are encouraged to explore AI technology as a tool for enhancing understanding and creativity, not as a substitute for critical thinking and problem-solving.

Conclusion
Future Problem Solving Australia is committed to fostering an environment where innovation, creativity, and integrity are paramount. The appropriate use of AI can enhance the educational experience, but it must be balanced with the core objective of developing genuine problem-solving skills. This policy will be reviewed annually to reflect advancements in AI technology and changes in the educational landscape, ensuring that Future Problem Solving Australia remains a leader in nurturing future thinkers and problem solvers.

By adhering to this policy, participants will continue to engage in a fair, challenging, and enriching educational journey that prepares them for the complexities of the future world.
