Because of school closures, social distancing and the use of online learning as a result of COVID-19, many young students at our schools were feeling anxious, uncertain, lonely and depressed. The project paired year 8 students with one or two younger student to act as Big Sisters work with their strengths and interests to enhance their sense of belonging and ability to interact.
The title for the project is STRESS which stands for Students Teaching Resilience to End Significant Stress. The students choose this title because they are trying to teach resilience that will help distress in students. Even though they are students we are keen to help other people in our community and beyond.
The PAL project aim is to bolster communication and connection within the community at Westmead Children's Hospital cancer ward so that their mental wellbeing and engagement in community can be sufficiently developed.
Our project is called KIND which is an acronym for Kindness in New Depth. We are trying to teach Grade 7 students at our school tools on how to be appropriate online.

The U OK Mate? project aims to provide a service which blends mindfulness, psychological self-assessment and innovative delivery of specialised mental health support for volunteer firefighters.
Even locally small actions targeted towards those struggling can still have an impact. The Masketeers want to improve the emotional well-being of those in need in our local community. Consequently, we believe that by making masks for the Homeless Hub, creating cards and care packages for seniors in age care and frontline workers we can help others weather the pandemic.
This project investigates school culture and how it can be improved by increasing support networks for students. After conducting research that indicated relationships are key to student wellbeing and development, we proposed a tutoring program where older students tutor younger students. With the aim that the interaction will be beneficial to both tutors, as a form of revision, the tutees to develop their knowledge, but especially both as a way of building connections between students, extending their support networks.
